From the page: "In an NPR News interview on July 24th, Margaret Kriz, National Journal energy and environment correspondent, discussed ethanol, Texas, the EPA and the ensuing debate regarding Ethanol regulations. Texas has reportedly applied for a waiver of the current ethanol standards. The Energy Policy Act provides an option for a waiver only if the environment or economy would be severely harmed because of the Renewable Fuel Standards."

From the page: "Robert Zubrin is best known for his daring "Mars Direct" plan, but his most recent book, Energy Victory: Winning the War on Terror by Breaking Free of Oil is set a lot closer to home. His proposal on solving America's oil addition is simple -- some critics would say too simple. Here's what Dr. Zubrin has to say. 1. Your book draws a direct line between our dependence on foreign oil and the distorting effect this has on American foreign policy. Why do you think this connection isn't getting more play in the presidential campaign?"

From the page: "Many fingers point to biofuels, especially ethanol, the alcohol fuel predominantly made from corn in the US. Ethanol is generally sold blended into gasoline. It is blended in ratios as low as 5% but recently, there has been a national push for more "E85" or 85% ethanol blended with 15% gasoline. Unlike other biofuels such as butanol or biodiesel, ethanol is derived from the food portion of the crop. As corn prices have skyrocketed, the wisdom of making fuel from food has been put under an increasingly unforgiving microscope. So how does this "wonder crop" really stack up? "

From the page: "Just as the word "drug" can refer to aspirin or cocaine, "biofuel" refers to a variety of products that vary dramatically in their environmental impact and effects on food prices. For instance, biodiesel from food oils such as soybean or palm oil has traditionally created environmental negatives. But corn ethanol has been a stepping stone to cellulosic ethanol, a preferred alternative that is likely to achieve unsubsidized market competitiveness with oil within a few years."
